Virtual Community Projects Laboratory


The Virtual Community Projects Laboratory was established by Derek Molloy & David Molloy in summer 2001.  Created in conjunction with the School of Electronic Engineering and the Research Institute in Networks and Communications Engineering (RINCE). The purpose of the group is to perform practical research into the areas of eLearning, people management and information systems.  The Virtual Community Projects Laboratory is a member of the Virtual Community Group, together with Web Accessibility Ireland (WAI).

Some of the ongoing projects within the VCPL are as follows:
  • Development of the "Virtual Community Project" (more info)
  • Continued Support for the online RACeE Programme (more info)
  • Development of a SCORM-compliant Learning Management System (LMS) (more info)
  • Development of the Y-Box System (more info)
  • Investigation and research into the DocBook standard
  • Development of Web Services for use within "Virtual Communities"
  • Research into innovative web-based teaching technologies
